In only a year and a half, SWIC has set up the entire program, conducted all of the research and training development and helped placed 85 people in sales, installation, project management and engineering jobs in fast-growing industries that range from solar to energy efficiency.
SWIC works with employers and recruiters to place qualified candidates in the identified positions. This streamlines the recruiting process and places the right people in the right jobs at the right time.
Among the companies that have either hired SWIC talent or worked with the program through trainings (as subject matter experts) and other workforce development activities include SolarCity, SolFocus, SunWize, SunEdison, Real Goods Solar, Siemens, Sears, Johnson Controls, SunEdison and SMA, just to name a few.
“Creating jobs and more clean, green power with our community partners is a huge win for everyone involved. Thanks to SWIC for making a difference!"
Dave Loomis, Territory Manager, SunPower“SWIC made everything easy for us to find motivated, trained, and qualified people at a time when our business was ramping up. The team narrowed our search down to the right fit, and even set up interviews for us! Every solar and energy efficiency company should take advantage of this free recruitment service.”
Nathaniel Allen, Program Director, Allterra Environmental.
SWIC is a market-driven, systems approach to workforce development funded by the State of California Labor & Workforce Development Agency. SWIC offers employers, training organizations and job seekers a leveraged and coordinated workforce development program.
SWIC partners NOVA, Foothill DeAnza Community Colleges and San Jose State University come together to address the needs of the solar and the energy efficiency industries. We convene employers, Workforce Investment Boards, educators, and ultimately job seekers to fill the talent gap in the emerging renewable energy sectors.
SWIC graduates are specially trained by industry experts and receive hands-on experience applying classroom concepts in the field. Our program services both college students as well as silicon valley professionals that are ready to enter emerging markets.
“...a big thank you to my solar and environmental studies teachers who helped prepare me for my new job! I started selling residential solar systems for SolarCity a couple of weeks ago, and I’m really having a great time! Sold my first system last week on my first sales call I’m now running two to three consultations a day, five to six days a week, going forward.”
